Ingredients

US measurements with metric in parentheses.

Instructions

  1. Mix the coffee and liqueur in a shallow dish.
  2. Whip the cream, mascarpone, sugar and vanilla in a large bowl until stiff peaks form, about 2 minutes.
  3. Quickly dip each ladyfinger in the coffee, about 1 second per side, and arrange a layer in an 8-inch (20 cm) square dish.
  4. Spread half the cream over the layer. Repeat with another layer of dipped biscuits and the remaining cream.
  5. Dust with cocoa. Cover and chill at least 6 hours or overnight.

Tips for success

  • Dip fast; soggy biscuits ruin the texture.
  • Use cold mascarpone and cream so the filling whips smoothly.

Substitutions

  • Skip the liqueur, or use decaf coffee for kids.
  • Use a dairy-free mascarpone alternative.

Storage & reheating
